Environmental Research
Nikita graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Environmental Science at Mount Royal University, located on Treaty 7 Territory.
Her research focus is on water quality in Indigenous communities, environmental equality, and the integration of traditional ecological knowledge (TEK).
She worked as a Researcher for the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University, and specialized in remediation & reclamation for an environmental consulting company in Alberta. Nikita currently works with a national First Nation organization on environmental policies, programs and funding.
Nikita passionately advocates that Indigenous ways of knowing and western science are equally valid knowledge sources and can both be used together in achieving common goals to reclaim and protect the environment.
“The first scientists passed on the lessons of the land, sea and sky to the future scientists of today through stories, songs and dance.”
“I say determination and loyalty
are key qualities to success. Loyalty to the investment you are establishing for your future self. Determination to get there and work through all the problems that come your way.
Believe me, it’s not easy and it shouldn’t be.”
